Burden
Most Christian are like a man who was toiling along the road, bending under a heavy burden, when a wagon overtook him, and the driver kindly offered to help him on his journey. He joyfully accepted the offer, but when seated, continued to bend beneath his burden, which he still kept on his shoulders. "Why do you not lay down your burden?" asked the kind-hearted driver. "Oh!" replied the mans, "I feel that it is almost too much to ask you to carry me, and I could not think of letting you carry my burden too." And so Christians, who have given themselves into care and keeping of the Lord Jesus, still continue to bend beneath the weight of their burden, and often go weary and heavy-laden throughout the whole length of their journey. by Hannah Whitall Smith
I also felt that way...I offer helps to other and i love doing that but when it comes to my burden, i refused to let anyone carry. I use the verse, Gal 6:2 Carry each other's burdens and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. I told the person, we are meant to help other's out. How do u surrender or trust Him when u dont even let Him carry your burden?I was simply using my own strength rather than relying on Him...(may be i am just a workaholic..hahah) I am learning to surrender to God and trust in Him and i hope you will too.
Gal 5:1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
We are children of God and we belongs to His family. Our heavenly Father is waiting for us to release our burdens:)

Mountainside??? Mt 5
Mt 5:1 Now when he saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down.
Why mountainside??? (thanks cindy for rising up the interesting question :D )
There are no actual mountains in this part of Galilee, but there are several large hills in the region to the west of the Sea of Galilee, and so a number of scholars do not feel "the mountain" is the most accurate understanding of the Greek word used in Matthew 5:1. Gundry feels it could mean "mountainous region," while France feels it should be read as "the hills". Less clinical academic analysis amongst some modern Christians has suggested the location as a hill on the north end of the Sea of Galilee, near Capernaum.

The Church of the Beatitudes on the northern coast of the Sea of Galilee.
One possible location of the sermon is on a hill that rises near Capernaum. Known in ancient times as Mt. Eremos and Karn Hattin, this hill is now the site of a twentieth century Roman Catholic chapel called the Church of the Beatitudes.
The reference to going up a mountain prior to preaching is considered by many to be deliberate reference to Moses on Mount Sinai, and though Hill disagrees, arguing that the links would have been made far clearer, Lapide feels that the clumsy phrasing implies that this verse is an exact transliteration from the Hebrew passage describing Moses

2 Abijah???
1 Kings records the final years of the united nation of Israel and its subsequent breakup into 2 separate kingdoms, Israel and Judah.
In 1 King 14 is about Ahijah's prophecy against Jeroboam.
(Ahijah was a prophet of Shiloh and Jeroboam became the king of Israel after God revealed Himself to Jeroboam. But Jeroboam supported, and even goes so far as to initiate, idol worship among his people.)
v1 : At that time Abijah son of Jeroboam became ill (and he died)
interestingly in 1Kings 15 Abijah King of Judah (Son of Rehoboam)
v1 : In the eighteenth year of the reign of Jeroboam son of Nebat, Abijah became king of Judah
And in 1kings 14:31 Rehoboam rested with his fathers and was buried with them in the City of David......And Abijah his son succeeded him as king.
So...was Abijah son of Jeroboam or Rehoboam???
Then i looked through KJV bible. Found out that there were 2 different people. Abijah, son of Jeroboam and Abijam(Abijah) son of Rehoboam.:)

Devotion
Hi gals, was reading my devotion for the day and surprise surprise, it contains the OT (old testament) verse we have been talking about regarding the birth of JC. Another surprise is that the passage is related to our very stressful exam/work time (key sentence is highlighted below). Sorry if it's a bit long-winded, signed up the devotion with the Message version coz i don't have any bibles with that version...hahahahahaha.
Isaiah 7:1-25
[1] During the time that Ahaz son of Jotham, son of Uzziah, was king of Judah, King Rezin of Aram and King Pekah son of Remaliah of Israel attacked Jerusalem, but the attack sputtered out. When the Davidic government learned that Aram had joined forces with Ephraim (that is, Israel), Ahaz and his people were badly shaken. They shook like trees in the wind. [3]Then God told Isaiah, "Go and meet Ahaz. Take your son Shear-jashub (A-Remnant-Will-Return) with you. Meet him south of the city at the end of the aqueduct where it empties into the upper pool on the road to the public laundry. Tell him, Listen, calm down. Don't be afraid. And don't panic over these two burnt-out cases, Rezin of Aram and the son of Remaliah. They talk big but there's nothing to them. Aram, along with Ephraim's son of Remaliah, have plotted to do you harm. They've conspired against you, saying, 'Let's go to war against Judah, dismember it, take it for ourselves, and set the son of Tabeel up as a puppet king over it.' [7] But God, the Master, says, "It won't happen. Nothing will come of it Because the capital of Aram is Damascus and the king of Damascus is a mere man, Rezin. As for Ephraim, in sixty-five years it will be rubble, nothing left of it. The capital of Ephraim is Samaria, and the king of Samaria is the mere son of Remaliah. If you don't take your stand in faith, you won't have a leg to stand on." [10] God spoke again to Ahaz. This time he said, "Ask for a sign from your God. Ask anything. Be extravagant. Ask for the moon!" [12]But Ahaz said, "I'd never do that. I'd never make demands like that on God!" [13]So Isaiah told him, "Then listen to this, government of David! It's bad enough that you make people tired with your pious, timid hypocrisies, but now you're making God tired. So the Master is going to give you a sign anyway. Watch for this: A girl who is presently a virgin will get pregnant. She'll bear a son and name him Immanuel (God-With-Us). By the time the child is twelve years old, able to make moral decisions, the threat of war will be over. Relax, those two kings that have you so worried will be out of the picture. But also be warned: God will bring on you and your people and your government a judgment worse than anything since the time the kingdom split, when Ephraim left Judah. The king of Assyria is coming!" [18]That's when God will whistle for the flies at the headwaters of Egypt's Nile, and whistle for the bees in the land of Assyria. They'll come and infest every nook and cranny of this country. There'll be no getting away from them. [20]And that's when the Master will take the razor rented from across the Euphrates-the king of Assyria no less!-and shave the hair off your heads and genitals, leaving you shamed, exposed, and denuded. He'll shave off your beards while he's at it. [21]It will be a time when survivors will count themselves lucky to have a cow and a couple of sheep. At least they'll have plenty of milk! Whoever's left in the land will learn to make do with the simplest foods-curds, whey, and honey. [23]But that's not the end of it. This country that used to be covered with fine vineyards-thousands of them, worth millions!-will revert to a weed patch. Weeds and thornbushes everywhere! Good for nothing except, perhaps, hunting rabbits. Cattle and sheep will forage as best they can in the fields of weeds-but there won't be a trace of all those fertile and well-tended gardens and fields.

MEDITATE
"Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see" (Heb. 11:1).It makes a huge difference, when you are struggling, if someone is able to put new heart into you by their words. And if these words come from God then you certainly need to pay attention! Invasion of a country, threatened or actual, or an attack on a community or a family, is terrifying, especially if the numbers do not stack up in your favor. Dry lips, sweaty palms, a mind flitting from thought to thought, and a racing pulse are all signs that we are at the edge. Here God offers hope to the king (7-9), but Ahaz is curious, preferring to ally himself with the Assyrians (2 Kings 16:7-9).Here is encouragement to take God seriously. The call is to let faith drive out fear, and peace replace panic (4,9b). What a call to our anxious generation to trust in God! The presence of Isaiah's son, whose name meant "a remnant will return" (3; cf. 10:20-23) was God's promise to Ahaz. To help him trust, a sign is given. A child will be born and before he comes to an age of responsibility (approx. 12) his enemies will have been defeated (16). Here is the promise of an ongoing bloodline and a future. This is something not guaranteed to his foes, whose days are numbered. This word, while having an immediate fulfillment, becomes a promise that will be passed down from generation to generation. The coming one will bring the presence of God to the people in a human form - Immanuel (8:8b). For Christians, this is one of the great Christmas texts, quoted in Matthew 1, which finds its fulfillment supremely in the incarnation of Jesus. Back in Ahaz' time, the promise is overshadowed by another warning - danger is coming. Not, though, from the neighboring powers (Israel and Syria to the north) but from his so-called ally, the rising superpower Assyria - a test of a very different order (17)!
